As usual a superb piece. The lack of progress in achieving meaningful accountability for such egregious treatment of innocent Sub-Postmasters is extremely concerning i.e. Has the root cause of this scandal been identified ? Have all innocent Sub-Postmasters, that are still alive, been 'returned' to the position they would have been in had they not been abused by POL and its supporters ?
May I give an answer to your 2nd question as a ex SPM who is still alive, lost everything at 47, included property/relationship and family, of which none ever was re-established because you are rarely capable emotionally of the come back. Very rare SPM's came out of this mentally unscarred. It is 20 years later. After being put through the mill all over again by the PO. mental health assessment/forensic accountants/a private barrister/I had all the evidence, I had kept it! So my claim had no doubts to it. I still only got offered just half of my claim. By that time I was so broken down again, my mental health going again, I took it.
Desperation, I had been living hand to mouth for 20years. I couldnt take any more fighting with them. So NO justice will never to given to the innocent Sub Postmaster. The system in this country will not change, and will never allow it. I truly believe the "little people" will always be trodden down under the feet of the existing justice system. That quite frankly should be ashamed of itself. But never will be,
Proper Legal Aid and/or Pro Bono legal assistance would help individuals against the corporates. The only really effective progress to proper redress for SPM so far has been the ITV drama. What is the chance of that happening again in other scandals?
Are all parts of the Justice system fully aware of how faulty computers, and the way they are imbedded into corporate customer care systems cause harm? Do the courts still believe computer data is correct, unless an individual can prove otherwise? Does the Justice system merely ask the corporate “is their computer operating normally". If ‘normal’ means the computer holds wrong data, or has bugs errors or defects will the justice system side with the corporate? This I believe (have evidence) is what is still happening. At this time, now, today. Peoples lives are being wrecked.
When you get answers to your 6 questions, will anybody act on them?
I see no appetite for change in our legal system. HMCTS and the Judiciary have no moral compass. They apply our adversarial law and fail to dispense justice. We need inquisitorial Justice in the first instance not public inquiries after the injustice.
You are a good man with an amazing team Richard. Thank you for your work.

Richard, Karen, Sally excellent, thought provoking work.
Thank you for persevering and for keeping the issues and the questions live.
Hoping for justice for SPMs soon.
