More pure gold: Wyn Williams’ closing comment “ I can’t say “I’ve forgotten” because I never knew…” mirrors how a senior lawyer referred to his own amnesia
Do we now know how and why it was possible that each successive 'onion' layer of corporate governance management failed simultaneously ? How are those responsible going to be held accountable ? How will it be ensured that such a scandal will never occur again ?
And was it £130 million in legal fees and who knows how much managerial time to defend the Post Office in the inquiry? And how much extra for everyone else's fees? And Aberfan was done and dusted in weeks. What is it about us today?. Criminal process and trials take so much longer now than when I was a kid ( I am 67) and are we really more just than back then? Not saying there weren't more
bent coppers and unjust judges back then, but does it really take so long in pre trial and trial process to do justice?
I’m just catching up on watching the closing submissions- “non-finger-pointy finger-pointing” is a good way of putting it. I found the NFSP one quite extraordinary given their role and the experience of their members of being totally thrown to the wolves. Seeking to blame all of that on one person was just implausible although of course understandable that self preservation has kicked in- if nothing else.
